16-year-old arrested; deliberate taking pictures with explosives at Berkeley Excessive, police say

BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass faculty shooting that could have included a bombing at Berkeley High College, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no faculty that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing damaging system supplies and threatening to commit a crime which is able to result in demise or nice bodily injury.

Police said they received a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a pupil at Berkeley Excessive School.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they discovered components to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and electronic objects that could possibly be used to create extra weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"College security stays a excessive priority for the division," police stated in a statement. 

Particulars on whom the teenager was making an attempt to recruit were not disclosed. Police mentioned this case stays underneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens informed the school's neighborhood that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon elements, the district relied on police expertise to evaluate any potential ongoing risk to its schools. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this period, we alerted our administrative and safety staff about this investigation and, as is our normal practice, maintained shut contact with our BPD College Resource Officer on the Berkeley High Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we had been assured that this particular person didn't pose an immediate menace to the Berkeley High Faculty group."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary motion against the student.
