BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass college shooting that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive College, police say. 

The teen was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department stated in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no faculty that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing damaging gadget supplies and threatening to commit a criminal offense which is able to end in loss of life or nice bodily damage.

Police mentioned they received a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a capturing that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teenager was a scholar at Berkeley Excessive Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and digital items that could be used to create extra weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"Faculty safety remains a excessive priority for the department," police stated in a press release. 

Particulars on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit weren't disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens informed the college's community that the district was in shut contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon components, the district relied on police expertise to evaluate any potential ongoing risk to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this era, we alerted our administrative and safety workers about this investigation and, as is our commonplace apply, maintained close contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive School campus," Stephens wrote.
