BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass school capturing that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive School, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no faculty that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive machine materials and threatening to commit a criminal offense which will result in death or nice bodily damage.

Police said they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police did not say if the teenager was a scholar at Berkeley High School.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they found components to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and digital items that may very well be used to create further weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"Faculty security stays a high precedence for the division," police stated in a statement. 

Particulars on whom the teen was trying to recruit weren't disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains underneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens instructed the college's neighborhood that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon parts, the district relied on police experience to assess any potential ongoing threat to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this era, we alerted our administrative and security staff about this investigation and, as is our customary practice, maintained close contact with our BPD School Resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive College campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation period, we were assured that this individual didn't pose an instantaneous threat to the Berkeley High Faculty neighborhood."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district might pursue disciplinary motion towards the scholar. 

In addition, a city hall meeting titled: 'Learn how to Discuss to Children About School Violence' provided by Alameda County Office of Education is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
