Dave Chappelle attacked onstage at L.A.’s Hollywood Bowl

Comic Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage Tuesday night time as he performed at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl arena, with videos from viewers members' cellphones shortly flooding social media and showing a person appear to run onto the stage and deal with the comic.

Chappelle, whose unapologetic humor has made him a lightning rod for criticism, appeared unscathed by the sudden interruption and later joked (Be aware: Linked video incorporates harsh language including profanity) with fellow comic and actor Jamie Foxx onstage that he'd taken revenge on his attacker.

Videos posted to Twitter appeared to show the one who charged Chappelle being detained outdoors the venue by police and then loaded into an ambulance with visible injuries.

Witnesses mentioned — and movies appeared to point out — that the person was set upon by a number of folks onstage instantly after he attacked Chappelle.

While the whole debacle was captured in multiple videos shot by members of the audience, cellphone use was officially banned through the performance.  

The motivation for the preliminary attack remained unclear, and there was no quick response from the Los Angeles Police Department to CBS News' request for information about the incident.

Comic Chris Rock was on the present, and jokingly asked if the attacker was Will Smith — who made headlines by bounding up on stage and slapping Rock on the Academy Awards in March.

Chappelle drew a pointy rebuke late final year from the transgender group for jokes at their expense featured in his newest Netflix special, "The Closer," which premiered in October.

Netflix stood by the Washington D.C. native, continuing to air the particular despite hundreds of its personal workers staging a walk-out over what they deemed Chappelle's transphobic jokes.

The comic later mentioned he'd be glad to fulfill with any member of the transgender group, but that he wouldn't be swayed by "anybody's calls for" to censor his routine.

"To the transgender neighborhood, I'm more than prepared to offer you an viewers, however you will not summon me. I am not bending to anyone's calls for," he instructed an audience in a clip posted to his Instagram. 

The 48-year-old comedian listed three conditions for any potential meeting, and responded to fellow comedian Hannah Gadsby, who labelled Chapelle's Netflix special "hate speech."

"When you wanna meet with me, I might be greater than keen to, however I've circumstances: To start with, you can not come when you've got not watched my particular from starting to finish. You will need to come to a spot of my selecting and a time of my selecting. And thirdly, you could admit that Hannah Gadsby will not be funny."
