Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech giant said its iconic music participant has been replaced by different units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, mentioned: "At present, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have integrated an unimaginable music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with support for spatial audio - there's no higher approach to enjoy, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that might hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new category of digital music participant that lets you put your whole music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the identical again."

Related MP3 players released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success because the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 versions of its music player - the Traditional, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod range lately, with cell phone know-how enabling customers to listen to music providers on their phones.

In 2014, the traditional click wheel mannequin was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano have been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the one mannequin nonetheless on sale at the moment.
