A California district lawyer declined to file charges Tuesday against former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Lawyer Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police stories and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no costs be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he committed a misdemeanor battery against one other passenger on an airplane while waiting on the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe said in an announcement.

"Our resolution is that we are going to not file any expenses against Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the sufferer leading as much as the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson that no expenses be filed in this case," Wagstaffe stated.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, showing to attempt to punch somebody who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson stated the individual was harassing Tyson. The video did not show what occurred earlier than the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file expenses by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement businesses "for his or her careful, diligent, and professional work."
