SACRAMENTO, Calif. >> A suspect on the run since a mass shooting left six folks dead throughout an alleged gang dispute in California’s capital city final month has been arrested in Las Vegas, authorities said.

Investigators consider Mtula Payton was one of the alleged gang members who opened hearth in downtown Sacramento on April 3. He was taken into custody at an apartment advanced, the Sacramento Police Department stated in a press release Saturday evening.

“Las Vegas Metro Police Division worked with our detectives for weeks in an effort to locate Payton,” the statement stated.

It wasn’t identified Sunday if Payton has an attorney who may communicate on his behalf.

Payton and two others, brothers Smiley Martin and Dandrae Martin, were charged this month with homicide within the slayings, in addition to weapons offenses.

Investigators supplied no motive however said in court documents that Smiley Martin and his companions recorded a web-based video hours before the shooting, flashing weapons and talking trash from a location in rival gang territory. In it, they state their plans to move to the downtown area with the intent of opening fireplace.

Three men alleged to be gang members and three girls who have been harmless bystanders died within the shootout that occurred as patrons of bars and nightclubs emptied out onto downtown streets. A dozen more individuals have been wounded.

The Martin brothers, who had been among the wounded, stay jailed. Attorneys for the brothers have but to comment on their charging.

Payton, who police say is a member of a rival gang, was being held in a Nevada jail pending transport back to California.
