Mike Tyson won’t face expenses in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district attorney says

A California district attorney declined to file expenses Tuesday against former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Lawyer Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police reviews and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no expenses be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Workplace concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery towards one other passenger on an airplane whereas waiting on the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe stated in a statement.

"Our choice is that we'll not file any prices against Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These include the conduct of the victim main up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, as well as the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no prices be filed on this case," Wagstaffe stated.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to attempt to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the person was harassing Tyson. The video did not present what occurred earlier than the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file prices by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and law enforcement agencies "for his or her cautious, diligent, and professional work."
