Throughout the Uvalde capturing, an off-duty federal agent’s spouse texted him for assist. “I asked my barber if he had a gun,” he mentioned.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when both men acquired text messages concerning the taking pictures unfolding at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, final week. "There's an lively shooter. Help. Love you," Albarado's wife Trisha said in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade teacher on the college, and their daughter is a scholar there.

"I asked my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, told CBS Information on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the college earlier that morning and was off obligation, together with his weapon at home.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, and they rushed to the chaotic scene. Cops were already there, and Albarado started serving to.

"Youngsters are popping out the windows," he said.

With folks fleeing to a funeral dwelling across the road, Albarado mentioned he wished to get inside the school as quick as he might.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado stated. "Aid. Large aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the varsity car parking zone.

While Border Patrol agents have been on the group that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I didn't have my gear, and so it would not have been a good move for me to get into the building," he said. "I didn't have my vest. A shotgun's not a ok defense."

During a press conference last week, the head of the Texas Division of Public Safety stated the college district's police chief did not initially send officers into the classroom where the gunman was located because he thought it was no longer an active-shooter state of affairs. The U.S. Justice Division is conducting a evaluate of the police response.

For his half, Albarado mentioned he wasn't able to evaluate the response.

"I do know my fellow officers," he said, "and … to me, coronary heart of hearts, I believe they have been doing everything in their power they might do."
