BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass college shooting that would have included a bombing at Berkeley High College, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive system supplies and threatening to commit against the law which will lead to dying or great bodily damage.

Police mentioned they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a capturing that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teenager was a scholar at Berkeley Excessive College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered components to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and electronic items that may very well be used to create further weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"Faculty safety remains a high priority for the department," police stated in a statement. 

Details on whom the teenager was making an attempt to recruit were not disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains underneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens informed the varsity's neighborhood that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon elements, the district relied on police experience to assess any potential ongoing danger to its colleges. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this period, we alerted our administrative and security staff about this investigation and, as is our customary apply, maintained close contact with our BPD Faculty Resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive School campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we have been assured that this particular person didn't pose a right away risk to the Berkeley Excessive College neighborhood."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary motion against the coed.
